Billing - Things to Know

Reaching Our Billing Department

Our billing department can help answer questions during our normal telephone hours. when our offices are closed you may leave a message with your name, date of birth, telephone number and a brief summary about the reason for your call. Your call will be returned. You may reach billing at 301-498-8880, Option 5

After Hours Services

In order to compensate and encourage doctors to provide after hours and weekend visits, the state of Maryland allows practices to charge and be reimbursed for "after hours" services that occur after 5pm Mondays - Fridays, or on weekends. Accordingly, MedPeds now bills the after hours code, 99050. The additional cost of $25 may or may not be covered by your insurance plan. To avoid owing the additional $25, we encourage you to check with your insurance plan to see if 99050 is covered, or limit your visits to weekdays before 5pm. For more information on the after hours code visit the Maryland Health Commission website.

Copays and Patient Balances

Copays and patient balances are due at the time service is rendered unless payment arrangements (up to 3 months) have been made. We may need to reschedule your appointment if you are unable to pay your copay and/or patient balance.

Medical Assistance/Medicaid

We accept straight Maryland Medicaid and several Managed Care Medicaid programs including Amerigroup, Priority Partners and United Healthcare Medicaid, except under the Primary Adult Care (PAC) program. If you are a member of the PAC your insurance ID card will indicate 'Primary Adult Care' and we will not be able to treat you. For Amerigroup, Priority Partners, and United Healthcare Medicaid a Medpeds provider must be listed on your ID card for us to treat you.

Medicare Preventive Services

Please refer to the Medicare Preventative Services document for information concerning how we handle Medicare Preventative Services.

Insurance Disputes

If you have insurance and dispute the amount you are being billed - MedPeds bills you according to your insurance company's instructions. Therefore, we recommend you first call your insurance company to inquire about how your claim was processed. If an error was made by your insurance company, ask them to reprocess the claim, as we are obligated to continue billing you until they do so.

Claims processed "out of network"

If MedPeds participates with your insurance, the insurance company knows we are "in network" by the TAX ID we report on our claims. If they have paid other claims in network, ask them why this claim was not paid and ask them to reprocess.

Patient Refunds

Patient Refunds are processed weekly. If you believe you are due a refund and have not received one, please contact our billing department.

Collection Balances

We don't like to do it, but we send unpaid accounts to a collection agency. Patients with accounts that are sent to an agency will be discharged from the practice and are not scheduled for further appointments until the collection balance is settled.

How MedPeds Works to Improve Your Care

Pre-Visit Planning for Your Child Helps Identify Potential Developmental Problems

Do you have an upcoming well-child visit scheduled?  Are you thinking of making an appointment for one?  We at MedPeds believe very strongly that early identification of potential behavioral issues in children and adolescents can lead to a better chance of dealing with these issues.  MedPeds is partnering with a group called CHADIS - Child Health & Development Interactive System - to help identify and treat behavioral issues.

MedPeds will soon be offering a health care questionnaire offered through the CHADIS website that you can complete prior to your next well-child visit.

For more information on the program, please visit the CHADIS website.

Use the Web Interview to enhance the quality of your care

MedPeds is extremely proud to offer our patients the opportunity to complete their own pre-visit Web Interview. The Web Interview is an online questionnaire that gathers information about your present condition and the specific medical issues that you want to see your provider about. You now have the opportunity to complete your pre-visit Web Interview from the comfort of your home. It is designed so that the completed information will be securely transmitted to the provider's office prior to your visit. We believe that completing a Web Interview prior to each visit to the office will improve your care by providing your provider with important information well ahead of your visit. By the time you arrive for your scheduled appointment, your provider will already have had the opportunity to review your Web Interview.

The Web Interview link is available from the Patient Portal (after logging on). Look for the Web Interview link located on the left-hand side of the page under the Intake Forms heading.

It makes sense to plan for the future. If you have established an Advance Directive or selected a Healthcare Agent to act on your behalf, please provide us with a copy to keep in your medical record. If you have not yet done so, and would like to select a Healthcare Agent you may choose to complete the attached form, or use another version. Bring a copy with you to your next visit.

Physicals and Pap Smears - What You Should Know

MedPeds Logo

Important Insurance Information about Physicals and Pap Smears

Did you know that most insurance companies will not pay for a physical and a pap smear performed on the same day? If a physical and pap are performed on the same day, your insurance company will likely pay for the less expensive of the two and deny the more expensive procedure. Unfortunately, this puts our doctors and practice in a bind. We acknowledge that asking patients to return to the office to receive a pap is not convenient. We wish is was not necessary to ask you to return, but unfortunately, it is the only way our office can be fairly compensated for providing this service to our patients. We appreciate your understanding and for scheduling a second visit to receive your pap.

Requests for Medical Records

A Medical Record Release Authorization Form (either our MedPeds form or a form from another provider, attorney, insurance company, etc...) must be completed before medical records may be released to any party, including to our patients.

Please Read - Updated Fee Information: MedPeds LLC contracts with DataFile Technologies to copy and provide all medical records requested from our office. DataFile Technologies will invoice you for fees as allowed by the State of Maryland and will send you all of the necessary directions to receive your records.

  • Base Fee: $22.09 (not charged when records sent to patient or to a specialist).
  • Per Page Fee: 73 cents per page (not charged when records sent to a specialist) - per page handling charge applies whether printing, faxing or copying to thumb drive.
